If you are taking a number of prescription medicines, you are entitled to a free annual NHS funded review of how you are taking your medicines. This consists of a chat with an accredited pharmacist in a private consultation room in the pharmacy. The pharmacist will explain what your medicines are for, the best times to take them and what side effects may occur. The pharmacist will check that any over the counter medicines or vitamins that you may take are okay with your prescribed medicines. Most importantly, it is an opportunity for you to ask the pharmacist about any queries you may have regarding your medicines. Please ask your Pharmacist for a medicine use review.

If you have a minor ailment the pharmacist can treat you. If you are entitled to free prescriptions (eg on grounds of income, prepayment, medical exemption or under 16 or over 60 years etc) then the pharmacist can provide you with some treatments free of charge for conditions such as allergies, conjunctivitis, cough and colds, head lice, thrush. Please ask at the pharmacy about this service. If you have to pay for your prescriptions then you are still entitled to the pharmacist's advice, free of charge, but will pay for treatment.

The New Medicine Service is a free NHS service offered through your Pharmacy. The aim behind NMS is to help you understand your condition and medicine, to ensure that you get the most out of any new medicine that are prescribed to you by a Doctor. This service is designed to provide early support to patients to maximise the benefits of new medication that they have recently been prescribed. A new medicine can lead to complications for patients, not only can they be unsure of why they are taking the medicine, they may also be taking it incorrectly, or at inappropriate times. NMS aims to clarify this for Patients to ensure they understand not only how to take the new medicine, but why they are taking them. We are also here to answer any questions you may have regarding your new medicine, and to work with you to improve your health.
